The Role

We are looking for a Community Engagement Manager to design, lead and coordinate a range of diverse initiatives that deliver community engagement with the Health Innovation Neighbourhood.

The Health Innovation Neighbourhood (HIN) is a redevelopment project of a 29 acre brownfield site of the former General Hospital site in the West End of Newcastle. The redevelopment aims to

create a neighbourhood where the housing, environment, infrastructure, research and learning will help drive and inform healthier and sustainable living across the lifecourse.

The West End of Newcastle is a diverse and highly populated urban area on the doorstep of the University which faces many challenges, including high levels of poverty and ill-health. It has a strong

voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) sector, schools and services that are active in supporting their communities. The Health Innovation Neighbourhood will maximise both the environment

for its community but also for its potential as a ‘living lab’ to help answer critical questions facing global policy makers about healthy and sustainable ageing across the lifecourse. Community engagement

is vital to the success of HIN. This means working with communities through existing partnerships. Our Community Engagement Strategy and Action Plan has identified those existing organisations in the

vicinity of the HIN site that have the potential to engage.

You will sit within the Engagement and Place Team and work closely with the Academic Director for HIN. To be highly successful in this role you will develop strong relationships with communities and

organisations in the West end of Newcastle and academics across Newcastle University to understand where the ambition of HIN and needs of local communities are aligned.

We are keen to hear from applicants who have experience of delivering public events, have strong communication skills and are passionate about working with communities.

This is role offered on a 2 year fixed term basis. We are currently working using hybrid model of some campus based and some home working however this role would require some weekend and

evening working in order to delivery engagement events.

If you would like to know more about the role before applying please contact Andrea Henderson, Head of Engagement, to arrange an informal discussion – andrea.henderson@ncl.ac.uk.

To apply please upload a CV and letter of application, which outlines how you can evidence the criteria, set out in ‘The Person’ section of the job description
