Lecturer Grade F: £33,966 to £44,263 per annum

Lecturer Grade G: £45,585 to £54,395 per annum

Senior Lecturer: £56,021 to £64,914 per annum

The Role 

We have an exciting opportunity to join one of the leading Engineering Schools in the UK where you will support and inspire the next generation of Newcastle University engineering graduates.  

As a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Mechatronics and Robotics, you will have an outstanding record in engineering, particularly in using design principles, sustainable product development and data-driven methods. You will work within and across boundaries to address major research challenges, attract grant income, generate high quality impact outcomes and expand existing capability in the School and University. The post holder will also be expected to actively contribute to the planning, governance and delivery of an innovative, positive and inspiring mechanical engineering educational offer. Preference will be given to candidates whose expertise bridges fundamental and applied aspects of engineering design.

To deliver at Lecturer/Senior Lecturer level in Robotics and Mechatronics, including areas such as Soft Robotics, Sensors, Healthcare Robotics, Advanced Manufacturing as well as bridging the gap between digital skills and engineering applications. Joining the Design, Manufacturing and Materials (DMM) Academic Group, but with an interdisciplinary ambition, you will strengthen the already successful research activity  within the Group. Depending on level, lead and/or contribute towards the development and delivery of taught programmes, modules and a range of high-quality teaching and learning resources within the DMM Group, as well as industry engagement and supporting our CPD offer.

Expertise in your research field should be matched by an outstanding research record that builds on our strengths in fields such as, but not limited to, Soft Robotics, Sensors, Healthcare Robotics, Advanced Manufacturing and Autonomous Transport Systems. You will have growing international visibility, and contribute to the full spectrum of academic activities, including research, teaching and leadership.

Our Urban Observatory has the largest set of publicly available real-time urban data in the UK.  We host the Faraday Institution North East, to recognise the importance of the region as a key centre of battery research, innovation, skills and production and have established Driving the Electric Revolution (DER) North East Industrialisation Centre (part of a £30M national project led by Newcastle) to enable faster collaborative research and development of electric machines. We lead on several EPSRC CDTs and are home to the £20M UKRI GCRF Hubs in Water Security and Sustainable Development, and Living Deltas. We have long-standing strategic partnerships with, for example, Siemens, including a Siemens Mindsphere lab for digital twinning, and Northumbrian Water, including the BEWISe facility at their north east treatment plant which is the first of its type in Europe in large-scale wastewater treatment research using bacteria  

Our world class medical school has excellent links with the School of Engineering, facilitating the long-term research and exploitation of signal processing/machine learning research in a range of domains aligned with Newcastle University’s research

strategy.
