The Role 

The School of Engineering is seeking to appoint a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Transport Engineering. We are interested in outstanding researchers and educators in the transport and mobility field with expertise in either of the two following broad areas:

  • Management, operation and economics of multimodal sustainable transport systems, including but not limited to emerging technologies, autonomous and electric vehicles, smart mobility, digitalisation;
  • Modelling and simulation of traffic flow, vehicles dynamics, large-scale complex systems, systems resilience, including but not limited to interaction with urban and energy systems.

In both areas, we are looking for candidates with a strong academic background related to transportation science and engineering, proven expertise in using established and emerging techniques across large-scale data, AI and machine learning, operational research and econometrics. These methods will be applied with the goal of addressing the key challenges of sustainability, decarbonisation, climate change, traffic congestion, safety, equity and inclusiveness.

Based within the Discipline of Civil and Geospatial Engineering, and joining the Future Mobility Academic Group, but with an interdisciplinary ambition, you will be expected to contribute to the further development of our expertise in areas of interest through supporting existing research initiatives, developing new ones, and contributing to teaching on our UG and PGT Civil and Transport Engineering programmes. 

Addressing the key challenges of sustainability, decarbonisation, climate change, traffic congestion, safety, equity and inclusiveness. Contributing to the delivery of excellence in education and research activity in areas including management, operation and economics of multimodal sustainable transport systems and modelling and simulation of traffic flow, vehicles dynamics, large-scale complex systems and systems resilience. Strengthen the already successful research within the Future Mobility Group. Depending on level, lead and/or contribute towards the development and delivery of taught programmes, modules and a range of high-quality teaching and learning resources within the FM Group.
