The Role

We are pleased to announce an exciting role based within the Newcastle Biostatistics Research Group (BRG). This role will primarily involve work on two ongoing projects that have the aim of developing and applying innovative biostatistics methods to design rheumatology and musculoskeletal clinical trials.

The BRG is a group of 32 applied and methodological biostatisticians who work together to develop and implement state-of-the-art statistical methods in health research. The role will be based in our offices on the University main campus. In alignment with Newcastle University’s flexible working policies, this position allows for a blended working arrangement. You will have the opportunity to work from home for up to half of your working week, providing a balanced work environment.

Research Associate:
We are looking for an individual that has a PhD in a statistical subject (or has several years research experience with a relevant masters).

Senior Research Associate:
We are looking for an individual that has a PhD in a statistical subject with several years of experience as a postdoctoral researcher (equivalently, for candidates without a PhD, a longer period of experience together with a relevant masters). Having an impressive set of relevant published papers and successful involvement in grant applications is essential.

Principal Research Associate:
We are looking for an individual that has an impressive portfolio of research outputs, evidence of applying their research in practice, and successful track record of funding for their research. You will likely have several years’ experience at a level equivalent to Senior Research Associate.

You will report to Professor James Wason, who you will meet with regularly. You will also take part in regular team meetings and collaborate with individuals within and external to the group. There will be opportunities to get involved in supervision of PhD students and line-manage more junior colleagues, depending on the level.

We are looking for individuals who are: ambitious to achieve results and develop their own research area that is complementary to the BRG; willing to get involved in applying advanced statistical methods in real projects; and who work well with others and are willing to support our positive research culture.

Please provide (maximum of 2 pages) covering letter explaining how you fit the essential (and if appropriate, desirable) criteria and an academic CV

If you have further questions about the role, please email james.wason@newcastle.ac.uk

This post is offered on a fixed term basis for a period of 3 years.
