In this position, you will be part of the Education and Student Affairs (ESA) team of the Department of Applied Physics. The ESA team is responsible for supporting all education within the department’s bachelor and master programs. This includes setting up the curriculum and study schedule, providing quality assurance, educational policy advice, support for educational innovations and organization of education.

Job description
We are looking for a policy officer education to join the ESA team. As a policy officer education you will make a crucial contribution to the management and quality of education at the Department of Applied Physics. You will be involved in the process of translating the TU/e’s and departments educational vision into educational policy and supporting the program director and academic staff in doing so. In line with that, your focus will be on overseeing and managing all educational processes in particular related to curriculum development and innovation.

As a policy advisor education you are the ‘spider in the web’. You will carry out all activities in close cooperation with the program director, the manager ESA, the central policy advisor chain, the teacher supporter, quality assurance officer and the examination- and program committees of the department. Communicating internally and externally is an important part of your job, as well as creating and promoting internal and external support. You are capable of taking on different roles, such as advisor, expert, project leader, or analyst. You are able to translate complex issues into concrete, executable or pragmatic solutions.

Some specific examples of your core activities are:

  • Annually updating the Program and Examination Regulations (PER’s) of the department programs, where PER’s describe the structure of the educational programs and contain provisions on the rights and duties of students and the university;
  • Setting up the annual reports on education used to evaluate the educational programs together with e.g. the deans of bachelor college and graduate school;
  • Managing the formal accreditation processes of our existing programs or new educational programs, according to the requirements of NVAO for quality and quality assurance;
  • A leading managerial role in educational innovation projects at the department, for example in the current redesign of the Bachelor’s program, being responsible for the process and the accomplishment of the project goals.

Job requirements

We are looking for candidates who meet the following requirements:

  • As an enthusiastic, pro-active, creative and thoughtful team player and professional, you can easily alternate between working individually and in groups;
  • You have excellent analytical skills and you are a strong conceptual thinker. This enables you to keep the overview of the bigger projects and the many subtasks that need to be done or delegated;
  • You have the ability to deal with different interests in the organization in a flexible and appropriate manner;
  • You have a university degree and/or relevant experience in a similar accreditation, policy or project management role and you have affinity with beta education;
  • You have excellent oral and written communication skills, both in Dutch and English (C1 proficiency level);
  • You are initiative-taking, independent, results-oriented and able to build bridges.

Conditions of employment

We offer you:

  • A challenging job (0.8-1.0 fte) in a dynamic department that is (inter)nationally acknowledged for its high-quality research and education;
  • The salary will depend on your knowledge, experience and education, and will be a minimum of € 3974 and a maximum of € 6181 gross per month on a full-time basis (scale 11/12 Collective Labor Agreement for the Dutch Universities);
  • An attractive package of fringe benefits, including excellent work facilities, 41 days of holiday, holiday allowance 8% in May, end-of-year bonus of 8.3% in December, and excellent sports facilities;
  • An initial temporary appointment for a period of one year with the intention to convert this into a permanent contract at a mutual positive evaluation;
