Course number and title: PLA1652H1F – Introductory Studio in Urban Design and Planning
Course description: This introductory studio will focus on the phenomenon of density. As a concept, density refers not only to population and built environment, but also to the nature of social relations and the quality of urban life. Accordingly, the general purpose of this studio will be to explore the relationships between density, urban form and urban life. This investigation is organized around the development of urban design guidelines and plans for a typical residential block of central Toronto, with special attention to public space, street life, built form and other key issues of urban design.
Estimated course enrollment: 12
Estimated TA Support: 20 hours
Class Schedule: Thursday, 2pm–5pm
Sessional dates of appointment: September 1, 2022 – December 31, 2022
Salary: Sessional Lecturer I – $8,489.67; Sessional Lecturer I LongTerm – $8,869.25; Sessional Lecturer II – $9,085.58; Sessional Lecturer III – $9,301.90

Minimum qualifications: A Ph.D. in Geography, Planning or a related field is preferred.
Preferred qualifications: Previous university level experience as a sole or co-instructor preferred. Completion of a professional development course on teaching preferred. Previous graduate level university teaching strongly preferred.
Brief description of duties: Preparing materials for lectures and class discussions; preparing course syllabi and selecting relevant readings; developing, administering, and marking course assignments, tests and exams; test/exam invigilation, supervising TA(s), and holding regular office hours.
