The Max Planck Institute for Biogeochemistry (MPI-BGC) in Jena is dedicated to interdisciplinary basic research in the field of Earth system sciences with a focus on climate and ecosystems. The internationally renowned institute, which currently employs around 230 people, will celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2022. Jena is known for high-tech industry, internationally renowned research institutions and a modern university. But it also has a beautiful natural setting in the green Saale valley with steep limestone slopes. The city of Jena has an active student scene and a diverse cultural life. We are looking for as soon as possible a Receptionist / Outgoing Goods Clerk (m/f/d) in full-time, part-time possible, initially limited for 2 years.
Background and position description:
The job holder works for the Central Calibration Laboratory of the European research infrastructure Integrated Carbon Observation System (ICOS), an observation network for greenhouse gases, and the service group Administration. He/she works mainly at the Institute’s secondary location in Kahlaische Straße, but also performs tasks at the Hans-Knöll-Straße location. The post holder works closely with scientists, some of whom are international, whose needs he/she can quickly grasp and implement in accordance with legal requirements and guidelines thanks to his/her knowledge of German and possibly English. The focus of the position is in the area of outgoing goods, which requires knowledge of dangerous goods law, customs law and foreign trade law. The Institute and the laboratory each ship partly high-quality technical equipment to European and non-European locations and partner organizations.
Your tasks:
- Processing of partly high-value international outgoing goods of the Max Planck Institute and the ICOS laboratory
- Processing of dangerous goods law, customs law and foreign trade law issues
- Reception duties at the Institute’s secondary location in Kahlaische Straße incl. general secretarial duties
- Support of the IT service and building services in the management of the secondary location
Your profile:
- Successfully completed vocational training as an office administrator or comparable qualifications
- Basic knowledge of the provisions of dangerous goods law, customs law and foreign trade law including relevant procedures and processes
- Knowledge of the German and English languages, both written and spoken
- Knowledge of SAP and MS Office applications
- Distinct ability to work in a team and intercultural competence as well as service orientation, initiative and sense of responsibility
- High flexibility and resilience, with very good time and priority management
- Interest in working with scientists in a research institution
Our offer:
Part-time work is generally possible. If the requirements of the collective agreement are met, the position will be graded according to TVöD Bund in EG 8; in addition, we will provide a pension plan based on the public service (VBL).
