The Max Planck Institute for Molecular Genetics (MPIMG) in Berlin is an international research institute with about 360 employees, dedicated to genomics, with a focus on gene regulation in mammalian development and disease. We offer an open position in the Max Planck Research Group ‘High-Resolution Functional Genomics’ (Head: Dr. Andreas Mayer) of the MPIMG for one PhD student (m/f/d) – Bioinformatics (Salary group 65% E 13 TVöD / full time, Code: 22-10).
The project aims at the understanding of the mechanisms that control human stem cell differentiation to establish cell type-specific gene expression programs. The position is offered initially for three years.
Responsibilities
Successful candidates (m/f/d) will work in a high-profile research environment and will be part of a multidisciplinary team of experts in the fields of transcription & chromatin regulation, cell differentiation, genome engineering and computational science.
The tasks will include the identification of gene expression changes that drive neuronal cell differentiation including the discovery of new transcript isoforms. The project involves machine learning modelling to predict expression and transcript changes during differentiation. This will also include the development and application of computational pipelines and tools for the analysis of next-generation sequencing data, integration of multiple data sets and data visualization.
Qualifications
We are looking for a highly motivated and skilled individual in the area of next-generation sequencing informatics. Eligible candidates should have a Master’s degree or a similar qualification in computational science or in related disciplines. The early career researcher will have a firm knowledge of the programming languages Python or R as well as expertise in Linux. The successful applicant will benefit from experience in the analysis of genome- and transcriptome-wide data.
