The Max Planck Institute for Physics (MPP) is a research institute focusing on particle and astroparticle physics from both an experimental and a theoretical perspective. Within the framework of the BMBF Project 05A21EX1 “LNGS-Upgrade: construction of a Cryo-Platform in the Gran Sasso Laboratory” we invite applications for a Postdoctoral Position (f/m/d) focused to the planning and implementation of the novel infrastructure.

The Cryo-Platform facility at LNGS is a large cryogenic setup conceived to perform measurements of different detectors and devices at very low temperatures (down to about 10 mK) in a low radioactivity and low vibration environment. The realization of the platform is a joint project between MPP, University of Tübingen and INFN-LNGS and all the group involved have a many years expertise in cryogenic technologies and infrastructures.

Your tasks

The successful candidate is expected to take a major role in the development, realization and commissioning of the infrastructure. For the successful completion of the project, long periods of presence at LNGS are mandatory. The candidate should have good communication skills and enjoy working as part of a team as well as independently.

Your profile

Candidates must hold or be near completion of a PhD in experimental physics or equivalent at the time of recruitment. A person with strong laboratory skills and a predilection toward instrumentation would be ideal. Previous experience with dilution refrigerators is essential. Expertise with cryogenic detectors for low background applications, as well as in low background methods is an advantage.

Our offer

The position is limited to a period of three years. Salary and benefits are in accordance with the German public service pay scale (TVöD Bund).
