The DNA Repair and Chemoresistance Group headed by Dr. Eric Van Dyck (Department of Cancer Research (DoCR)) carries out fundamental and translational research on the molecular mechanisms governing DNA repair, chromatin dynamics and chemoresistance in cancer. Our main research interest resides in the identification & validation of novel strategies to improve cancer treatment, with a particular focus on gliomas. PROJECT
We have received funds from Télévie/FNRS to undertake a collaborative project with Dr. Sabrina Fritah (NORLUX Neuro-Oncology Laboratory, DoCR). The goal of this project is to investigate the molecular mechanisms governing the epigenetic reading of DNA methylation marks by members of the Methyl-CpG Binding Domain Protein 1 (MBD1) family in wild-type and mutant IDH1 gliomas.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Participate in the setting-up and implementation of a collaborative research project
- Conduct a research project with the aims of submitting a PhD thesis dissertation and obtaining a PhD degree
- Publish her/his results in scientific journals and/or file patents if applicable
- Participation in training and conferences
- Disseminate her/his results to the scientific community and the public
- Participation in international scientific conferences
- Participation in laboratory activities including seminars and interaction with other teams.
KEY SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree (or equivalent degree) in biochemistry or molecular biology, with a solid background and research experience in cancer biology and epigenetics
- Wet laboratory and analytical skills, demonstrated experience in cell culture, nucleic-acids and protein characterization (including the expression/purification of recombinant protein, DNA binding assays, chromatin immunoprecipitations (ChIPs)), as well as in the CRISPR-cas9 technology and bioinformatics will be considered as strong assets
- Excellent time management, rigour, perseverance, scientific creativity and originality, writing skills, conciseness, sense of priority and ability to work with others
- Language skills: fluent command of English, knowledge of other languages of the European Union is an asset
