The Role
We are looking for an enthusiastic, talented postdoctoral scientist to join our team on a project funded by the Little Princess Trust. The aim of the project is to identify new therapies to improve the treatment of children with acute myeloid leukaemia and is a collaboration with teams in the United States. You will be part of the Translational and Clinical Research Institute which aims to increase our understanding of human diseases so we can improve outcomes for patients in our city, our region and worldwide.

Key Accountabilities
• Although working under the general guidance of the Principal Investigator, the postholder will contribute ideas, including enhancements to the technical or methodological aspects of their studies, thus providing substantial ‘added value’
• Develop and carry out the specified project using appropriate techniques and equipment as outlined in the personal requirements
• Determine appropriate methodologies for research, with advice and support where required
• Assess research findings for the need/scope for further investigations
• Undertake co-supervision, with guidance, of final year undergraduate or masters research projects and provide support to other members of the group.
• Contribute to the writing up of their research for publication and dissemination, either through seminar and conference presentations or through publications
• Present research findings, either at conferences, collaborator meetings or through publications in reputable outlets appropriate to the discipline
• Contribute to grant applications submitted by others and in time develop own research objectives and proposals for funding
• Will need to work with the support staff and interact intellectually with other academic members of the Institute.
• May contribute to events celebrating the public engagement of science/social sciences/humanities
• Develop an awareness of University structures, policies and procedures and relevant issues in the higher education, research, social and political environment
The Person
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
• Experience of preclinical drug testing, ideally in cancer, using cell lines and/or primary (primary-derived) cells
• Detailed subject knowledge in the area of precision medicines
• Experience of evaluating comprehensive drug synergy interactions; including ZIP, combination indices and Bliss models of synergy
• Experience of relevant pharmacodynamic techniques including western blotting and flow cytometry
• Presentations at national and international conferences and/or high-quality publications, commensurate with experience
• Ability to work well as part of a team and rapidly acquire new skills
• Ability to communicate complex information with clarity and to encourage the commitment of others
• Experience of research with clear transferable skills and some experience or awareness of the research environment
Desirable
• Possession of a Home Office personal license (PIL A/B/C) under the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986
• Experience in orthotopic xenograft models in immunodeficient mice
• Skills in fluorescence microscopy, particularly high throughput
• Experience in Image analysis with machine learning models

Qualifications
• A PhD in the research area of preclinical drug testing, ideally in cancer, is required
