The Role
We are looking for a new team member to be responsible for analysing a rich range of higher education data and building reporting dashboards to provide information, scenario modelling and trusted insight to support and inform University leadership in decision-making processes.
This is a full-time fixed-term role initially for two years. We can offer a blended approach to home and office working.
Who are we?
Strategic Planning & Change at Newcastle University is responsible for business and market intelligence, policy insights and support for the university’s strategic planning process and change projects. The Business Intelligence, Analytics and Insights team within Strategic Planning & Change co-ordinate a university-wide approach to strategic information and insights; ensuring the university has the strategic insights, management information and reporting capacity and capability to support strategic and operational decision-making.

Key Accountabilities
- Deliver data analysis, modelling and visualisation projects to enhance the availability and accessibility of critical information and insight aligned to University strategic priorities
- Prepare reports, papers, and commentaries, and analyse and interpret key management information in collaboration with colleagues in the Planning Office and other distributed teams to support core strategic and operational planning
- Maintain a core suite of reporting dashboards ensure information and insight provided to senior management teams is accurate and up to date.
- Monitor and report on dashboard data quality, usage statistics and customer feedback to support continuous improvement of dashboard provision and to identify future requirements
- Lead on elements of the implementation of agreed reporting standards and quality assurance within the Strategic Insights Portal
- Actively identify and promote latest best-practice approaches to analysis and use of specialist visualisation tools such as Power BI to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of reporting across the University
- Play a key role in the Analytics & Insights Community across the organisation; enhancing knowledge and understanding of data governance, and supporting improvements to data literacy across the organisation
- Support improvements to data governance and data quality; working closely with data and system owners and the Office of the Chief Technology Officer to identify improvements/requirements to inform future-state data models
The Person (Essential)
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Highly numerate with excellent and demonstrable experience and skills in statistical analysis, data visualisation and modelling
- Proven track record of working with and analysing large relational datasets
- Advanced IT literacy including Microsoft Office packages such as Excel and Power BI, plus experience with programming languages such as Python or R
- Experience of provision of information, insights, and drawing conclusions and informed recommendations
- Knowledge of good data governance, data quality, data protection practices and information security, and data-related regulatory requirements
- Strong communication skills demonstrated through experience of engaging with a range of audiences, communicating complex issues and data in an accessible and inclusive manner
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a commitment to providing excellent service with demonstrable experience of working collaboratively

Qualifications
- An Undergraduate degree plus significant experience in data science, data analytics, data visualisation, statistics, or a related discipline, in line with the requirements of the role
