The Faculty of Science, Technology and Medicine of the University of Luxembourg is opening for its Department of Computer Science (DCS) a new position of Associate Professor or Assistant Professor (Tenure-Track) depending on the professional background of the candidate. The position is open in the area of High Performance and Quantum Computing.
In case of an appointment as Assistant Professor, an evaluation will take place after five years for tenure and promotion to Associate Professor.
The Department of Computer Science (DCS) is one of Unilu’s main pillars of research excellence. DCS promotes interdisciplinary research and closely cooperates with other high-profile research centers in Luxembourg and beyond, as well as with industry and society. The faculty entertains various successful and growing teaching programs and supports lifelong learning activities. It strongly profits from Luxembourg’s involvement in the EU High Performance Computing initiative Europe, Luxembourg and the University of Luxembourg heavily invest in HPC and Quantum technologies in order to have a leading role in terms of research and education in the fields, as well as industry impact.
The University of Luxembourg, jointly with the National Supercomputing Center and the National innovation center compose Luxembourg National Competence Center in HPC taking part of the EuroHPC set of competences centers. The University of Luxembourg is also the coordinator and one of the awarding universities in the EUMaster4HPC.
The main part of the University is situated in Esch-Belval, a new and modern campus in a highly original environment with excellent public transport connections.
Your Role…
To strengthen and diversify the existing skills and expertise in the Department of Computer Science, the candidate is expected to develop and perform excellent research in Computer Science and to set up a research group in High Performance and Quantum Computing. The candidate will actively seek cooperation with researchers from within the department and with researchers from other departments, faculties, centers, or external Luxembourgish research institutions. Interdisciplinary research will allow the candidate to achieve practical impact.
The candidate will contribute to the teaching missions of the department at various levels (Bachelor, Master, PhD). In particular, the candidate is expected to provide advanced lectures in the fields of HPC/Quantum computing for the masters in Computer Science and HPC. The successful candidate will be expected to advise PhD candidates and contribute to doctoral and postdoctoral training (e.g., organization of research seminars, reading groups, winter and summer schools, etc.).

The successful candidate will have an excellent international track record, a strong background in HPC and Quantum Computing research, and who is open to interdisciplinary collaborations with both academia and industry.
The selected candidate will actively contribute to the department’s strategy by developing research at the highest level of academic excellence.
The candidate will also be specialised in High Performance Computing coupled with Quantum Computing.
Examples of possible areas of research are:
- Quantum Simulations, Algorithms
- Quantum Software Development
- Quantum Applications and Emerging Topics
Topics related to Quantum Physics, Post-Quantum cryptography, Quantum communications and not directly linked to HPC/Quantum Computing modules are out of scope.
Finally, the candidate will have a successful experience in teaching Computer Science topics and should be willing to contribute to the teaching missions of the department, as well as to administrative tasks.

Qualifications, experience, aptitude
- PhD degree in Computer Science, Informatics, or related areas
- A strong track record in research
- Experience in teaching at the undergraduate, graduate, or postgraduate levels
- Good presentation and communication skills
- Good organizational and management skills
- Experience in acquiring and managing research projects
Language requirements
