Skilled and committed employees are a crucial factor in the success of Linköping University. And we need more of them. Our core expertise comes from teachers and researchers, but a successful university requires experienced and motivated employees in many fields. Everyone is important. We need to recruit many new employees thanks to, among all, an expansion in our research activity. We need you here. We look forward to receiving your application!

At the Department of Behavioural Sciences and Learning we provide education and perform research in the fields of psychology, psychotherapy, disability research, education, pedagogic practices, didactic science, adult learning, human resources, sociology and popular education. Graduates from our courses and degree programmes are well prepared for the challenges of the workplace and our research makes a strong contribution to knowledge of human behaviour and learning processes.

We are now looking to appoint at least one postdoc in the field of Disability Research.

Work assignments
The post doc will work in two different projects. In the first project, we investigate how hearing loss influences memory systems and networks in the brain by mapping of longitudinal functional neural changes associated with hearing loss. In the second project, consistency in functional connectivity from resting state data in deaf signing individuals will be investigated across different datasets. The post doc has some degrees of freedom to define the exact research questions in the two projects.

Your work assignments include analysis of data collected within the two projects. The second project also includes a coordinating role that involves contact with other research groups. A follow-up study on some of the initial findings might be an option if that is of interest to the appointed candidate. Analysis of behavioral and self-report data are conducted with appropriate statistical methods (e.g., ANOVA) and connectivity analysis is the preferred choice for the functional imaging data, but other analytic approaches might be used if motivated by a specific research question.

As postdoc, you will principally carry out research. A certain amount of teaching may be part of your duties, up to a maximum of 20% of working hours.

The workplace
You will work at the Disability Research Division. The Division conducts pioneering theory-driven research with a focus on disability, based on neuroscientific, cognitive, pedagogical, and psychosocial perspectives. The research is mainly performed on groups with hearing impairment/deafness, combined visual and hearing impairment, neuropsychiatric disabilities (e.g., ADHD), and intellectual disabilities. Our research has a special focus on communication, cognitive skills, scholastic abilities, and various language forms, spoken as well as written and sign based. We study both children and adults, and we apply both quantitative and qualitative approaches to describe living conditions and associated behavioral, cognitive, and neural mechanisms. We conduct internationally renowned research in Cognitive Hearing Science within Linnaeus Centre HEAD (https://liu.se/en/research/linnaeus-centre-head).

Qualifications
To be qualified to take employment as postdoc, you must have been awarded a doctoral degree or have a foreign degree that is deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree.  This degree must have been awarded at the latest by the point at which LiU makes its decision to employ you.

It is considered advantageous if your doctoral degree is no older than three years at application deadline for this job. If there are special reasons for having an older doctoral degree – such as taking statutory leave – then these may be taken into consideration.

The holder of this position has a doctorate in a subject relevant to the project (e.g., with a focus on disability, cognitive neuroscience, cognitive psychology, or hearing science) and recent publications including brain imaging. The holder must demonstrate documented skill in analysis of functional brain imaging data, including resting state data. Of particular relevance is documented ability to analyze fMRI data from populations with hearing loss or deafness. It is also particularly meritorious with documented skill in quantitative methods and experimental design and advanced statistical analysis. Documented skill in conducting research with a focus on disability is of particular relevance. Documented skill in programming is a merit. Another merit is documented skill in administering, scoring, and analyzing results from cognitive or linguistic tests. Documented teaching experience with a focus on cognitive psychology, scientific method, statistics, or neuroscience is also a merit. A requirement is that the holder masters English in speech and writing.

Personal characteristics of the holder include good planning ability, and an ability to structure and carry out independent working assignments. The holder also has good collaboration skills.
