Job Summary

As a Senior Grant Writer, you will have the opportunity to work across the university with faculty teams from all colleges in the writing, editing, and document development of large-scale, interdisciplinary research and programmatic proposals that include equity and diversity-focused initiatives. You will also have the opportunity to provide grant writing support to faculty to include planning, document development and control, writing and editing, and team communications. You will also serve as the liaison with the Purdue Office of Institutional Equity to develop best practices in diversity- and equity-focused proposals for federal funding opportunities.
This is a unique opportunity to represent Research Development Services across the university and lead Executive Vice President for Research and Partnership’s overall proposal development strategy based on grant writing best practices, funding agency mission, and funding opportunity priorities. 
Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, rhetoric and communication, science, engineering, or closely related field
  • Five (5) years of professional writing and editing experience
  • Grant writing experience with federal sponsors
  • Proven experience facilitating diversity and inclusion partnerships and best practices.
  • Proven experience facilitating faculty proposal development teams across academic colleges and departments
  • Strong portfolio of writing and editing for both scientific expert and lay audiences
  • Expertise in mission and focus of research sponsors and track record of compliance with all requirements of specific grant competitions
  • Ability to understand broad content of proposed research, articulate a compelling project rationale, establish timelines, and drive best practices for proposal development
  • Ability to strategize with teams, collaborate as an integral member of the proposal team, express ideas clearly and effectively, attend to details, and meet multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment that sometimes requires variable hours
  • Ability to effectively communicate across campus departments and programs
