Within the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science (EEMCS), the Department of Biomedical Signals and Systems (BSS) is looking for a highly motivated Assistant Professor (f/m) with advanced expertise in the analysis of (multi-modal) signals and dynamic systems, with a focus on ambulatory movement analysis and its application in the clinic and daily life (e.g. eHealth, transition of hospital/rehabilitation care to home). You will work on the challenges of reliably measuring and analyzing human movement quality during daily-life using sensor fusion principles in order to enable assessment and prediction of disease progression as input for clinical decision making and on-body feedback. Your teaching will include dynamics and feedback control of physiological functions, addressed from an engineering perspective.

The mission of the BSS department is to enable improved diagnosis and treatment of patients with chronic diseases involving the neuromotor, cardiopulmonary and/or endocrine systems in the home/self-care as well as clinical setting. Our research is embedded in the Technical Medicine (TechMed) and Digital Society (DSI) Institutes of the University of Twente (UT). Our teaching contributes to the Technical Medicine, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and CreaTe curricula.

YOUR PROFILE

  • You hold a PhD in electrical engineering, mathematics, biomedical engineering or similar;
  • You have advanced expertise in the analysis of (stochastic) physiological signals, sensor fusion and physiological control systems, and expertise in daily-life human movement analysis. Experience in working in clinical environments and multidisciplinary teams is an asset;
  • You have excellent communication skills and experience with academic teaching;
  • You are a great teammate, but also have a high degree of responsibility and independence.

  • You will be appointed fulltime for 12-18 months at the UT, with the prospect of a permanent position after a positive evaluation. A parttime position of 32 hours is negotiable.
  • The terms of employment are in accordance with the Dutch Collective Labour Agreement for Universities (CAO), and include:
  • A starting salary between € 3.974 (scale 11) to € 6.181 (scale 12) gross per month, based on your experience;
  • A holiday allowance of 8% of the gross annual salary, a year-end bonus of 8.3% and a solid pension scheme;
  • a minimum of 29 leave days in case of fulltime employment based on a formal workweek of 38 hours. A fulltime employment in practice means 40 hours a week, therefore resulting in 96 extra leave hours on an annual basis.
