At the Technical Faculty of IT and Design, Department of Electronic Systems, one or more positions as postdoc in 6G Energy Efficiency Research are open for appointment from October 1, 2022, or as soon as possible thereafter. The positions are available for 24 months. The Department of Electronic Systems consists of more than 200 employees, of which about 40 % are international and about 90 are enrolled PhD students. The Department hosts 620 students. The Department’s research centres around communication, antennas, control systems, AI, sound, cybersecurity and robotics. The Department plays an active role in translating discoveries and results into practical applications with industrial partners and IPR. The Department provides teaching for several BSc and MSc programmes using a problem- and project-based learning model.

JOB DESCRIPTION

As PostDoc in 6G Energy Efficiency Research, you will collaborate closely with researchers at Aalborg University as well as Nokia Bell Labs Research, also located in Aalborg. Besides conducting own research for publications and potential patenting, the job may include supervision of students, including PhD candidates, working within the same field of research.

A key design goal of 6G systems is environmental sustainability and drastic improvement of device and network energy efficiency to cope with the projected traffic growth while considering new services. The research area includes but may not be limited to the following topics:

  • Study 6G network deployments for improved network energy performance and assess energy saving potential holistically using realistic energy models along with user and traffic data expected in 2030, including energy data extrapolations from live networks.
  • Develop and evaluate by realistic simulations radio concepts for enhancing network energy savings considering the expected 6G radio access network architecture, distributed MIMO technology, bandwidth adaptation mechanisms, micro sleep, advanced air interface concepts based on machine learning, etc.
  • Develop and evaluate by realistic simulations application-aware discontinuous transmission and reception concepts for devices to minimize energy consumption for power hungry and latency intolerant services, from critical control message delivery to meta-verse and cyber physical systems type applications.

Qualification requirements: 

Appointment as Postdoc presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment. Appointment as a Postdoc cannot exceed a period of four years in total at Aalborg University.
