Professor 

At the Department of Psychosocial Science, Faculty of Psychology, there is a vacancy for a permanent 100% position as professor in personality psychology linked to the professional study in psychology. It may be relevant to appoint an associate professor if there are not sufficiently qualified applicants for a professorship.

Work tasks/research field:

The position is linked to the professional study in psychology. Specific tasks will include: 

  • Course responsibility, teaching, guidance and grading at the professional study in psychology, mainly in the field of personality psychology. It may also be relevant to contribute to other study programs at the department. 
  • It is expected that the person who is appointed participates in developing study programs and courses, as well as participates in developing and testing new forms of teaching where the students’ learning outcomes are at the center. 
  • The employee is expected to contribute to the research front within personality psychology through active participation in one of the department’s research groups. 
  • Initiate and take part in collaboration on research projects, application writing and publishing. 
  • Collaborate closely with colleagues at the department 
  • Participate in administrative tasks, meetings and committee work on an equal footing with other employees at the department. 

Qulifications and personal qualities:

  • To be qualified, the applicant must have obtained a PhD/doctoral degree within the field of personality psychology or an area with a high relevance to personality psychology or must have submitted his/her doctoral thesis within the field of personality psychology or with a high relevance to personality psychology for assessment prior to the application deadline. It is a condition of employment that the PhD has been awarded. 
  • Applicants should be qualified for the position of professor of personality psychology or an area of ​​high relevance personality psychology. If there are no qualified applicants with such a background, it may be relevant to employ an associate professor within the same subject area. 
  • Applicants must be able to document teaching and research experience in personality psychology or an area of ​​high relevance to personality psychology. 
  • It will be considered an advantage if the applicant can show competence in one of the other core disciplines of psychology at the department (social psychology, developmental psychology or cognitive psychology)  
  • It will count positively if the applicant has experience from applying for research funding from external sources (e.g. the Research Council of Norway) 
  • It will count positively if the applicant can document practice from work as a psychologist 
  • The applicant’s potential for research will be emphasized.  
  • Motivation and personal qualities will be emphasized.
  • He or she must be able to work independently, in a structured manner and have good communication and collaboration skills.  
  • Basic teaching training and experience with the supervision of students at university level is a requirement for both positions, please read “Rules for assessing educational competence at UiB“.  
    • For position as Professor this is a requirement that must be achieved at the time of application. For position as Associate professor: Applicants who are unable to document adequate educational competence by the time of application, will be ordered to meet the requirements within two years of assuming office.  
  • Be able to use English in writing and orally. 
  • The teaching language will normally be Norwegian. The successful applicant will be required to teach in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language within three years of being appointed. Norwegian language training will be offered. 

We can offer:

  • Exciting and developing work tasks in a strong professional environment 
  • Salary as professor (code 1013) at pay grade 80 – 85. This currently amounts to an annual salary of NOK 825 900 – 948 900 before taxes in the state salary scale. A higher salary may be considered for a particularly well qualified applicant. 
  • If there are not sufficiently qualified applicants for the position of professor, it may be relevant to fill a position as associate professor. Salary according to salary steps 70 – 74 (code 1011) in the state salary scale upon appointment. This currently amounts to an annual salary of NOK 650 300 – 702 100 gross. Further increase in salary will depend on seniority. A higher salary may be considered for a particularly well qualified applicant. 
  • Enrolment in the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund
