Project: Study of LINE-1 retrotransposons as long non-coding RNAs in brain development and diseases

Commitment & contract: Full-time, collaboration contract, duration: 24 months

Location: CHT Center for Human Technologies – Genoa

WHO WE ARE

At IIT we work enthusiastically to develop human-centered Science and Technology to tackle some of the most pressing societal challenges of our times and transfer these technologies to the production system and society. Our Genoa headquarter is strictly inter-connected with our 11 centers around Italy and two outer-stations based in the US for a truly interdisciplinary experience.

YOUR TEAM

You will be working in a multicultural and multi-disciplinary group, where molecular biologist, genomic technologists and computational scientists collaborate, each with their own expertise, to carry out common research.

The non-coding RNAs and RNA-based therapeutics Research Line is coordinated by Prof. Stefano Gustincich, with a well established academic record in the field of the functional genomics of non-coding RNAs. The study involves the use of molecular biology and next-generation sequencing techniques to investigate the role of LINE-1 retrotransposons as long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) in the epigenetic and post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression during developmental processes of the mouse and human brain by taking advantage of in vitro and in vivo models, and how dysregulations of LINE-1 retrotransposon activity could impact the onset and development of neurological and neurodegenerative disorders in rodent models.

Within the team, your main responsibilities will be:

  • Analysis of RNA protein interaction networks, nanopore sequencing, neuronal cells cultures
  • Participate and support a constructive working environment
  • Communicating and collaborating with your team workers

 WHAT WOULD MAKE YOU SHINE

  • A PhD in molecular biology, genomics, neurobiology or a related discipline
  • A strong background in (molecular) biology
  • Good communication skills and willingness to collaborate are essential
  • Good command in spoken and written English

EXTRA AWESOME
