The Centre for Cultural Heritage Technology (CCHT) of the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT) in Venice focuses on researching and promoting new technologies for recording, documenting, analyse and preserve Cultural Heritage in a broad sense (artistic, archaeological, archival, historical heritage). A strongly interdisciplinary infrastructure, the Centre combines expertise from computing and conservation sciences domains, integrating these competencies to foster cutting-edge research.

CCHT is currently seeking to appoint a Junior PostDoc with a solid background in Robotics and Machine Learning applied to Computer Vision (3D modelling/reconstruction). The appointed researcher will consolidate CCHT expertise in the development of a 3D digitisation system using robotic arms to capture multiview images of Cultural Heritage objects.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • A Ph.D. in computer science or related field (with preferred specialisation in Machine Learning/CV and/or Robotics);
  • Experience in developing scripts to control robotic arms (e.g. UR robots);
  • Experience in Deep neural network model design and implementation (using common frameworks as Pytorch, TensorFlow, etc.);
  • Proficiency with programming languages (e.g., Python, C/C++);
  • Proficient in English language (written and oral);
  • Experience in the computer vision field (for example, but not limited to, 3D reconstruction from RGBD data, photometric stereo, structure from motion, structured light systems, etc.) or machine learning applied to computer vision.

ADDITIONAL SKILLS

  • Strong track record of research publications in top tier conferences and journals (e.g.  CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, NIPS, TPAMI, IJCV, IVC, CVIU);
  • Good communication skills and ability to cooperate;
  • Interest in cultural heritage (applications to archaeology, art, artefact studies etc.) and, more broadly, Digital Humanities.
