The Humanoid and Human Centred Mechatronics (HHCM) Research Line (https://www.iit.it/research/lines/humanoids-human-centered-mechatronics) at the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT) an English-language research Institute placed in Genoa, Italy, is seeking to full-time appoint a Mechatronic/Robot design/assembly Engineer who will have a key role on the area of mechanical design, assembly and debugging of prototype robotic systems. 

We are looking for highly motivated Mechanical Engineers with experience in designing and hands-on skills in building and troubleshooting of robotic and mechanical systems. Specific responsibilities of the job would include the following:

  • Design and assemble new robot mechanical components using 3D/2D CAD design tools.
  • Physically inspect, evaluate and troubleshoot mechanical hardware issues
  • Integrate mechanical and electronic components to fully assemble novel customized robot prototypes.
  • Interact with mechanical workshops and evaluate manufacturers and suppliers of nonstandard parts.

The ideal candidate should possess a Mechanical Engineer degree and be able to demonstrate:

  • Excellent knowledge of CAD software tools (primarily with Pro Engineer and ANSYS, other relevant also welcome).
  • Very good experience in understanding and working with technical mechanical drawings.
  • At least 3 years of experience in the design/assembly and debugging of practical electro-mechanical systems.
  • Excellent hands-on skills in the assembly of mechanical parts.
  • Very good experience in interacting with mechanical workshop personnel as well as in operating standard workshop machinery including 3D rapid prototype machines.

The position is open for immediate starting. The selected candidate will be in charge of the development upgrade and maintenance of robotic systems within the Humanoid and Human Centered Mechatronics Research line for a range of state of the art robot platforms including COMAN, WALK-MAN, CENTAURO, and human centered systems such as wearable power augmentation and teleoperation Master devices.

The successful candidate will be offered a contract with a competitive salary which will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
