Course number and title:  PSL374 Advanced Physiology Laboratory

Course description:  PSL374 is an undergraduate course offered by the Department of Physiology.  Students will be introduced to animal handling and electrophysiology; as well as the application of endocrine, cardiovascular and molecular physiology in the context of experiments in mutant mice.

Estimated course enrolment:  25 undergraduates

Estimated TA support:  2-3 per module

Class schedule:  During the scheduled Arts and Science winter term, with lectures Tuesdays 2-3 p.m. and laboratories on Wednesdays 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Sessional dates of appointment:  January to April 2023

Salary:  $2,546.90 (inclusive of vacation pay)

Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.

Minimum qualifications:  PhD in physiology or a related field with experience as a Teaching Assistant/Instructor in an undergraduate course.

Preferred qualifications:  Previous experience teaching in a physiology laboratory course, with evidence of teaching/supervising graduate students. Animal handling experience an asset.

Description of duties:  All normal duties related to the coordination of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content and laboratory practicums, under the supervision of the undergraduate coordinator and faculty module leads; development and administration of tests and exams; calculation and submission of grades; holding regular office hours; supervising TA’s assigned to the course, including TA training and TA marking of course assignments, tests and exams; preparing all necessary orders for Division of Teaching Laboratories; and other duties as required. These duties represent about 30% of the work load for this course.
