The Critical Studies in Equity and Solidarity Program at New College seeks a sessional lecturer from September 1, 2022 – December 31, 2022 for the following course:

Course Number and Title: CSE348H1F – SPECIAL TOPICS IN EQUITY STUDIES:  INDIGENOUS RELATIONSHIPS WITH PLACE IN URBAN CENTRES (Section LEC0201)

Course Description: This course looks at how Indigenous perspectives inform our relationships with place, with a focus on cities, where over half of Indigenous people in Canada now live. What are the implications of these perspectives for large, multicultural urban contexts? How might this play out ethically in the potential evolution of ‘modern civilization’? We will explore these questions through readings, lectures, discussion and visits to the land and water in Toronto.

Sessional Dates of Appointment: September 1, 2022 – December 31, 2022

Salary: $8,489.67 (Sessional Lecturer I) – $8,869.25 (Sessional Lecturer I Long Term) – $9,085.58 (Sessional Lecturer II) – $9,301.90 (Sessional Lecturer III)

Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail. 

Minimum Qualifications: A PhD in progress or completed PhD in Education, Environmental Studies or Urban Studies with a focus on Indigeneity. Knowledge, research and experience with urban land and water based education from an Indigenous perspective is required. Extensive experience working with urban Indigenous groups is also required.

Description of Duties: Normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; development, administration and marking of assignments, tests and exams; calculation and submission of grades; and holding regular office hours.
