Course description: This course will provide students the chance to build capacity in understanding equity, diversity, inclusivity (EDI) concepts and to consider opportunities to integrate these concepts into their work/practice. The course will facilitate an introduction to several social and equity-centric concepts while exploring various contexts for how EDI integration can be considered within engineering education, research and work-spaces. It facilitates the development of personal reflections and actions which situates engineering design, research and education as sociotechnical processes influenced by social concepts operating at various scales (from individual to global).

Hours: 0.5 HCE (up to a maximum of 115 hours) 

Sessional dates of appointment:  September 1, 2022 – December 31, 2022 

Salary: CUPE minimum salary rates for a quarter course (0.5 HCE), inclusive of vacation pay, are: Sessional Lecturer 1 – $4,244.83; Sessional Lecturer 1 Long Term – $4,434.63; Sessional Lecturer 2 – $4,542.79; and Sessional Lecturer 3 – $4.650.95. Should rates stipulated in the Collective Agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the Collective Agreement shall prevail. 

Minimum Qualifications: Candidates should have at least a Masters in engineering and/or education with demonstrated knowledge of equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) issues and dynamics with particular emphasis within engineering teaching and practice at post-secondary institutions, research spaces and/or industry.  

Preferred Qualifications: Candidates should have previous experience teaching engineering students. Candidates should have experience in the development and facilitation of various EDI workshops at a post-secondary and/or industry level.  

Description of duties:  

  • Co-facilitate the planning/delivery of course material 
  • Weekly meeting with the co-instructor to discuss the week’s lecture 
  • Grade assignments throughout the term of the contract 
  • Provide scheduled time to engage student emails and questions  
  • Ability to convert to or co-facilitate online learning if required
