Job Code: 22/034Job Offer from July 05, 2022The Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics as an institute of the Max Planck Society for the Advancement of Science (registered association) is the largest centre for fusion research in Europe with about 1100 employees in Garching near Munich and Greifswald. The scientists are investigating the physical principles for a fusion power plant which – like the sun – generates energy from the fusion of light atomic nuclei. The research is carried out in seven experimental and theoretical projects aimed at developing nuclear fusion into an inexhaustible and safe source of energy for the future.

For the large-scale experiment ASDEX Upgrade in Garching, we are developing solutions for the acquisition, storage and evaluation of data from about one hundred sophisticated physical diagnostics, preferably on Linux computers. The Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics in Garching offers within this division a position for two computer scientists or electrical engineers (f/m/d) with the main focus on Scientific data collection systems or data management

Your tasks

  • Independent strategic conception and further development of the data acquisition framework,
  • Independent further development of the software framework for data processing, storage and evaluation,
  • taking into account scientific and economic aspects

Your profile/Our requirements

  • Completed PhD (U/TU/TH) as an electrical engineer or computer scientist or a related field with a focus on data acquisition or data management or
  • Diploma or Master’s degree (FH/TU/TH) in computer science or electrical engineering or a related field and several years of professional experience in data acquisition or data management projects
  • Task-specific experience and knowledge in the areas of measurement technology, real-time applications, driver development, database systems, data mining, Linux, C++ and Python

  • Interest in working in a scientific environment
  • Willingness to work in an international team
  • Ability to present complex scientific-technical issues verbally and in writing in German and English

The position is permanent. The salary is based on the assignment of tasks and qualifications and goes up to pay group 14 according to the collective agreement for the public sector (TVöD Bund).
