The Swedish Institute for Social Research (SOFI, www.sofi.su.se) is part of the Faculty of Social Sciences  at Stockholm University. The Institute has about 110 employees and conducts research in social policy, welfare, inequality and labor markets. Researchers at SOFI are also involved in teaching, mainly in Sociology and Economics.

Project description
The position as a postdoc is connected to the comparative social policy research carried out at SOFI (www.sofi.su.se/english/research/three-research-units/socpol-social-policy) and part of the project rEUsilience: Risks, Resources and Inequalities: Increasing Resilience in European Families, funded by Horizon Europe. Taken as a whole, the project’s research aim is to identify the level of risk and socio-economic insecurity faced by families across Europe and the capacity of different family types to absorb socio-economic shocks by adjusting behaviours and structural arrangements. The postdoc position provides an excellent opportunity to perform country-comparative research to critically examine the role of policy. The work takes place in an outstanding international consortium with partners in 6 countries (Belgium, Spain, Croatia, Poland, Sweden, and the United Kingdom), and will comprise both pan-European analyses of existing data (on policy and practice) and new focus group research.

Main responsibilities
The postdoc is expected to bring along plans for their research within the scope of the role Stockholm University has in the rEUsilience project. The grant application is available upon request. The postdoc is further expected to collaborate with other project members, and contribute to predominantly quantitative analyses of the impact of social policy on family resilience. The postdoc will work with a wide variety of Eurostat micro-datasets, perform micro-simulations of social policy using EUROMOD. High-level research and publications in international scientific journals are expected.

Qualification requirements
Postdoctoral positions are appointed primarily for purposes of research. Applicants are expected to hold a Swedish doctoral degree or an equivalent degree from another country.

Assessment criteria
The degree must have been completed at latest before the employment decision is made, but no more than three years before the closing date. An older degree may be acceptable under special circumstances. Special reasons refer to sick leave, parental leave, elected positions in trade unions, service in the total defense, or other similar circumstances as well as clinical attachment or service/assignments relevant to the subject area.

The following assessment criteria will be used:

• The quality of earlier research and qualifications
• The degree to which the applicant’s research plan and previous research support the overall goals of the rEUsilience project
• Skills and experience relevant for the analysis of socio-economic risks and family diversity in large-scale country-comparative data, quantitative data analysis, and the analysis of social policy using micro-simulation and other techniques
• The applicant should be fluent in spoken and written English.

Terms of employment
The position involves full-time employment for a minimum of two years and a maximum of three years, with the possibility of extension under special circumstances. Start date 1 September 2022, or as per agreement.
