The Department of Economics and Management of the Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance of the University of Luxembourg is looking for a PhD candidate to conduct research in supply chain management.
Your Role…
The doctoral researcher will be working under the supervision of Professor Benny Mantin. The doctoral researcher’s main task will be to prepare a doctoral thesis in the fields of operations management and supply chain management. The thesis work will be undertaken at the University of Luxembourg but can also be jointly-supervised with another university. The suggested theme of the PhD is horizontal arrangements between different firms in providing services and products. Examples of horizontal arrangements include code-sharing agreements between airlines, alliances, cost pooling agreements, as well as coordination and alignment of services and product offerings.
The candidate is, however, welcome to suggest any other topic within the overarching project theme. The doctoral candidate will contribute to the teaching of classes ranging from one to three hours per week, of small group teachings and tutorials.
The doctoral researcher will benefit from being part of large research group comprising several PhDs and Postdoctoral Researchers working on related topics in the diverse domains of operations management. Being part of the project will allow the doctoral researcher to enhance his/her knowledge-base and experience; working on the various aspects of the project will not only strengthen his/her academic profile, but also give him/her access to (and the chance to critically engage with) diverse experts in the field. The doctoral researcher will be based at the Centre for Logistics and Supply Chain Management (LCL) that is part of the Department of Economics and Management and is a member of the MIT global Supply Chain And Logistics Excellence (SCALE) network.
Qualifications…
We are looking for a candidate with demonstrated interest in operations management and the application of theory to practice-driven challenges. In particular, the following requirements apply:
- A Master’s Degree in operations management, operations research, industrial engineering, economics or related fields
- Familiarity with programming languages (e.g. Matlab, Python, etc.)
- Knowledge of econometrics theory and tools (e.g., Stata) is an asset
- Excellent command of English
- Strong communication and writing skills

The yearly gross salary for every PhD at the UL is EUR 37.101,36 (full time)
