Up to two temporary 100% positions as associate professor are available at the University of Agder, Faculty of Humanities and Education in English Language and didactics at the Department of Foreign Languages and Translation. The positions are available for one year, with possibility of extension, and located at Campus Kristiansand. The starting date is January 1 or negotiable with the Faculty.


The department has 25 scientific positions and study programmes of English, French, German, Spanish, and Translation. The department’s teaching portfolio includes one-year studies, bachelor’s and master’s programmes, teacher education, postgraduate certificate in Education, as well as doctoral specialisations in linguistics and literature.

Responsibilities

The positions will mainly cover teaching in the teacher training programs in the following areas: Grammar, phonetics and didactics. The positions entail contact with schools, and supervision of students during practice is part of the responsibility.

Required qualifications

  • master’s degree in English language and / or English subject didactics
  • documented relevant practical-pedagogical competence or relevant teaching experience
  • good knowledge of language theory and language learning theory
  • competence in English subject didactics

Criteria for employment are stated in the Regulations on employment and promotion in teaching and research positions.

  • teaching experience from schools/teacher training/continuing education for teachers
  • experience from other school-oriented activities

The position is remunerated according to the State Salary Scale, salary plan 17.510, code 1009  Assistant Professor NOK 573 900 – 661 400 gross salary per year. Higher salary grades may be considered for particularly well-qualified applicants. A compulsory pension contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund is deducted from the pay according to current statutory provisions.
