The Department of Engineering Managemnt in the Faculty of Business and Economics is looking for a doctoral scholarship holder in the field of environmental economics and sustainability assessment.
Position
- You will work actively on the preparation and defence of a PhD thesis Applied Economics. The transition towards a sustainable economy is dependent on consistent and comparable environmental assessments of bio-based products. However, in practice today the methods to assess the impact of bio-based products give incomparable results, thus confusing decision-making. The Horizon Europe project ALIGNED (Aligning life cycle assessment (LCA) methods and bio-based sectors for improved environmental performance) will deliver a modelling framework to assess and optimise the environmental and socio-economic performance of bio-based industries. This PhD research will contribute to the modelling framework, work specifically on the case of the woodworking sector and on both socio-economic assessments and LCA.
- You will publish scientific articles related to the research project.
- You will participate at national and international conferences.
- You can communicate your research results in a clear manner to a wide range of actors.
- You will carry out a limited number of teaching and research support tasks.
Profile
- You hold a Master degree in (Applied) Economics, Business Engineering (or similar), Environmental Sciences, Bioscience Engineering (or similar) or you will have obtained it by the time you start to work.
- You can demonstrate good study results.
- Your teaching competences are in line with the University of Antwerp’s educational vision.
- Your research qualities are in line with the faculty and university research policies.
- You act with attention to quality, integrity, creativity and cooperation.
- You enjoy working interdisciplinary.
What we offer
- We offer a doctoral scholarship for a period of one years. Following a positive evaluation, the scholarship can be renewed for a total period of maximum 4 years.
- The planned start date is 15 October 2022 or as soon as possible after that date.
- Your monthly scholarship amount is calculated according to the scholarship amounts for doctoral scholarship holders on the pay scales for Contract Research Staff (Dutch: Bijzonder Academisch Personeel, BAP).
