About This Opportunity 

The First Nations Cancer & Wellbeing Research (FNCWR) Program is led by Professor Gail Garvey within the School of Public Health, Faculty of Medicine. The vision of the FNCWR program is innovative and community-driven research that supports and empowers Australia’s First Nations people and communities to achieve optimal health and wellbeing.  Further information about the appointments being recruited to can be found here.

There are two Research Fellow positions available and each position will be required to develop an independent research program, with the aim of achieving national recognition and impact in an area of relevance to the First Nations Cancer and Wellbeing Research (FNCWR) program. Depending on the Research Fellows area of interest and background they will play a substantial role in and be responsible for the daily operations of managing a project to improve patient-centred care and treatment outcomes for First Nations cancer patients or managing a First Nations wellbeing project. 

These positions will contribute to the existing research program and develop, undertake and manage new research to advance the First Nations Cancer and Wellbeing Research (FNCWR) program. This includes but is not limited to preparation of funding submissions, building the program’s output of scholarly publications and building the capacity and capabilities of junior staff and students. The position provides the opportunity for the incumbent to enhance their research skills, research network and build on their Indigenous Health research experience.

About You  

  • Completion of a PhD in a relevant discipline area.
  • A growing profile in research in the discipline area.
  • A developing reputation and track record of publications in reputed refereed journals and presenting at conferences.
  • Evidence of successfully seeking, obtaining and managing external research funding.
  • A growing record of supervision of Honours and Research Higher Degree students to successful completion.
  • Experience in meaningful internal service roles in conjunction with active contributions to external activities

What We Can Offer 

There are two full-time (100%), fixed-term positions for up to 3 years at Academic level B. 

The full-time equivalent base salary at Level B will be in the range $101,533.66 – $120,570.86 plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range $118,794.38 – $141,067.91 per annum.
