Are you a great communicator that enjoys communicating about our work on soil information development and land management?  Are you a good writer that can develop compelling video-stories about soils and their sustainable use? Are you the person that manages our social media channels? Then we are looking for you!

ISRIC — World Soil Information has the mission to increase the availability and use of quality assessed soil data, information and knowledge to enable sustainable soil and land management. Besides the development of soil information both globally and with our partners at national level, we apply the available information products in support of decision making for sustainable land management globally. And of course, we maintain the World Soil Museum, a beautiful place to admire and learn about the diversity of soils globally. We are looking for an experienced communication specialist to further expand out external communication through social media, websites and the various platforms in the World Soil Museum.

Major tasks are:

  • Pro-actively develop communication and news items about ISRIC’s activities and projects together with ISRIC colleagues
  • Develop compelling video-stories to be hosted in the World Soil Museum and our on-line platforms
  • Maintain and develop ISRIC’s institutional website
  • Manage our social media channels and bi-annual newsletter
  • Further develop and maintain the ISRIC Communication Strategy

Your qualities

  • A completed and relevant master’s degree and proven affinity with our field of work
  • At least 5 year experience as a communication officer
  • Pleasant colleague who enjoys working in our team
  • Experience with managing social media at institutional level (mainly LinkedIn and Twitter)
  • Experience with optimization of institutional websites: ensuring continuous relevant content, gathering use statistics and defining appropriate actions to increase visibility and use of the website
  • Ability to develop compelling video stories about issues related to sustainable soil management globally
  • Have and excellent command of English (C1 or C2 level); excellent writing skills and experience with writing news items and blogs.
  • Willingness to travel to Africa

We offer you

The successful candidate will be working for the foundation ISRIC – World Soil Information, but will be employed by Wageningen University, hence all Wageningen University employment conditions apply to this position.

Wageningen University & Research offers excellent terms of employment. A few highlights from our Collective Labour Agreement include:

  • sabbatical leave, study leave, and partially paid parental leave;
  • working hours that can be discussed and arranged so that they allow for the best possible work-life balance;
  • the option to accrue additional compensation / holiday hours by working more, up to 40 hours per week;
  • there is a strong focus on vitality and you can make use of the sports facilities available on campus for a small fee;
  • a fixed December bonus of 8.3%;

In addition to these first-rate employee benefits, you will of course receive a good salary and a contract for 2 years with the possibility of a permanent contract afterwards. Depending on your experience, we offer a competitive gross salary of between € 2.960,-and € 5.439,- for a full-time working week of 38 hours, in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreements for Dutch Universities (CAO-NU) (scale 10-11). Additionally, a contract for 0,8 FTE can be discussed.

ISRIC — World Soil Information has the mission to serve the international community with information about the world’s soil resources to help addressing major global issues. We are the International Council for Science (ICSU) accredited World Data Centre for Soils (WDC-Soils) since 1989 and maintains the World Soil Museum. In partnership, we operate in four priority areas: (i) standard setting for soil information; (ii) production and serving of spatial soil information products; (iii) education and capacity building; and (iv) development of derived products for specific user groups.
