The Department of Interface Science headed by Prof. Beatriz Roldán Cuenya at the Fritz Haber Institute in Berlin carries out cutting-edge research on advanced functional materials with applications in heterogeneous catalysis, energy conversion and electrochemistry. By combining unique synthesis methods, state-of-the art tools for experimental characterization and advanced approaches to data analysis, atomistic details of thermal catalysis and electrochemical reactions at gas/solid and liquid/solid interfaces are revealed. In particular, structure-reactivity correlations on nanostructured materials can be established, paving the way for the rational design of novel catalytic materials.

We are currently looking for a postdoctoral fellow (m/f/d) for the liquid phase electron microscopy group at the Department of Interface Science.

Job description

We have an immediate opening for a postdoctoral fellow in the liquid phase electron microscopy group led by Dr. See Wee Chee. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to perform in situ/operando studies looking at the behavior of heterogeneous catalysts under reaction conditions using state-of-the-art liquid cell transmission electron microscopy (TEM) holders. The focus of the research is to visualize the structure of working catalysts under reaction conditions and investigate their underlying structure-property relationships.

The postdoctoral position is initially limited to one year with the option for an extension.

Requirements

Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree in the physical sciences and show a strong track record of TEM/STEM related publications. Ph.D students who are expected to graduate within six months are also welcome to apply. Expertise in aberration-corrected TEM/STEM imaging and in the application of advanced TEM-based spectroscopic techniques (EDX, EELS) are required.

Candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas are preferred:

  • 1. In situ and operando TEM
  • 2. Catalyst characterization using TEM
  • 3. Scripting in Python or equivalent languages for image acquisition and analysis

Application

Applications for this position are only accepted via our online application portal. Send your application with the following documents:

  • curriculum vitae
  • a list of publications
  • names and email addresses of three references

Applications will be accepted from immediately until the position is filled. We thank all applicants for their interest; however, only those individuals selected for an interview will be contacted.
