Course CHL3052H: Practical Bioethics (capstone)
This is required course in the Master of Health Sciences (MHSc) in Bioethics program. The MHSc in Bioethics is a two-year professional degree program for health professionals working in health settings. This half-year course is a capstone course held continuously over the Fall and Winter terms in the second year of the MHSc program. The course engages students in reflecting on what they have learned throughout the MHSc program and in exploring ways to apply bioethics knowledge in their professional work settings. In-class sessions focus on approaches to leading ethics change, influencing policies, evaluating ethics quality, and fostering ethics conversations in practice. Students develop and complete an individual capstone project addressing health ethics issues with the supervision of a faculty member or other supervisor and the support of peers. The course culminates in a full-day symposium during which students present their capstone projects.

Salary: $4,728.95 (Sessional Lecturer I)

$5,285.01 (Sessional Lecturer III Long Term)
(Salary inclusive of 4% or 6% vacation pay, where applicable)
Please note that should rates stipulated in the Collective Agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.
Qualifications: Masters or PhD Degree in Bioethics, experience with and detailed knowledge of bioethics policy and practice in health settings, familiarity with the MHSc in Bioethics program is preferred.
Description of duties: As well as normal teaching duties, the instructor will plan lectures and other learning activities; evaluate student assignments; mentor students and monitor student progress on their capstone projects; maintain course Quercus page; attend MHSc faculty meetings; and communicate with the MHSc program director as necessary.
