Course description:
An introduction to the Punjabi language and is designed for students with little or no prior knowledge of Punjabi. Basic grammatical structures and conversational skills will be introduced as well as the gurmukhi script in which Punjabi is most commonly written. Contextual background about the history of Punjabi and the various contexts in which it has been used will also be discussed in class.

Sessional Lecturer I – $18,915.79 inclusive of vacation pay (1.0 FCE)
Sessional Lecturer I Long Term – $19,861.58 inclusive of vacation pay (1.0 FCE)
Sessional Lecturer II – $20,243.53 inclusive of vacation pay (1.0 FCE)
Sessional Lecturer II Long Term – $20,653.23 inclusive of vacation pay (1.0 FCE)
Sessional Lecturer III – $20,725.52 inclusive of vacation pay (1.0 FCE)
Sessional Lecturer III Long Term – $21,140.03 inclusive of vacation pay (1.0 FCE)
Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.
Minimum qualifications:
Graduate-level degree is required.
Demonstrated experience teaching Punjabi is required.
Expertise in Punjabi cultural studies is required.
(Near-)native Punjabi language fluency is required.
Preferred qualifications:
Demonstrated excellence in teaching this course, or a similar course, is preferred.
Preference in hiring is given to qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II and Sessional Lecturer III in accordance with Article 14:12.
Description of duties:
All normal duties related to the design and teaching of a University credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; out-of-class interactions with students via e-mail and office hours; development, administration and marking of assignments,tests and exams; calculation and submission of grades; ordering of all necessary readings; supervision of TAs (if any) assigned to the course.
