Course Title: JCP322H5S: Statistical Mechanics
Course Description: Statistical methods for bridging the quantum behaviour of atoms and molecules to their macroscopic properties in solid, liquid and gaseous states. The course introduces partition functions, canonical ensembles, and their application to thermodynamic properties such as entropy, heat capacity, equilibrium constants, reaction rates, and Bose-Einstein/Fermi-Dirac distribution functions. Salary: $8,489.67 (Sessional Lecturer I); $8,869.25 (Sessional Lecturer I Long Term); $9,085.58 (Sessional Lecturer II); $9,301.90 (Sessional Lecturer III). Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.
Qualifications: Ph.D. in relevant area of Physics and/or Chemistry. Currency and mastery of subject area required. Past teaching experience and demonstrated excellence in teaching similar course.
Description of Duties: All normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university credit course, including but not limited to preparation and delivery of course content, development, administration and marking of assignments, tests and examinations, calculations and submission of grades, provide direction and supervision of TA’s, and holding regular office hours.
