Biometrics plays an increasingly important role in our society. Examples are fingerprint recognition and face recognition to unlock our mobile phones, and automated passport checks at airports. The rise of Deep Learning models has increased recognition performance enormously, but also the possibilities for, e.g., creating realistic fake data. In addition, deep learning poses a challenge to the explainability of the recognition results. The Data Management & Biometrics (DMB) research group has extensive experience in Biometric research, which is carried out in national and European projects, but also in shorter projects with e.g. the Dutch Police, the Netherlands Forensic Institute, the Dutch Government, and Schiphol Airport. Examples of our recent research are Morphing Attack Detection (MAD), Vein Recognition, 3D Face Recognition and Face recognition at a distance. The DMB group plays an important role as an expertise centre on Biometrics in The Netherlands, and we have a tight collaboration with other research groups on biometrics in Europe in e.g. the iMARS project. In addition, the DMB group offers a Master Track in Computer Vision and Biometrics and teaches courses on Computer Vision, Machine Learning, and Biometrics.

The Data Management and Biometrics group (DMB) is a diverse research group of 11 scientific staff members, around 25 PhDs and 3 supporting staff members. The main research and educational topics are Computer Vision & Biometrics, Applied and Theoretical Machine Learning for a wide range of data types, especially Deep Learning and Explainability, Process Mining, AI in e-Health, and Data Engineering. The DMB group has an open and welcoming atmosphere, with room for scientific and social interactions.

Because of our recent fast expansion, both in numbers of PhD candidates as well as Master Students, we are now looking for an Assistant Professor in Biometrics to support in teaching, research, and acquisition of new projects.
