At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of the Built Environment at Aalborg University’s campus in Copenhagen a position as Assistant Professor in three years to the research group Sustainable Cities and Everyday Practices (SCEP) in the section of Town, Housing and Property is open for appointment from 15 of December 2022 or soon hereafter.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The department work within the areas:

  • Energy and resource consumption in the built environment
  • Everyday practice from a sustainability perspective
  • Smart home, smart cities, and smart grid from a co-design perspective
  • Accessibility for all, including usability and accessibility to buildings, urban and landscape environments, and transportation
  • Urban renewal and area-based initiatives
  • Housing preferences, mobility, and housing quality
  • Architecture and design of the built environment
  • Regional development, settlement in the peripheral regions.

The SCEP research group work with everyday life and consumption in urban and residential settings, primarily from practice theory and STS perspectives. The group is internationally recognized for its research, especially within energy consumption and everyday practices, and the qualified candidate for this assistant professor position should be part of continuously strengthen and develop this position of the group. The position will have an explicit focus on qualitative methods in the study of everyday practices, and how these relates to home and homely practices including questions of comfort and smart technology. Part of the work will be related to a project financed by ERC-adv grant eCAPE (see www.ecape.aau.dk) which have an explicit focus on developing theories of practice based on empirical research in energy consumption and everyday life. This work could include exploration of the relations between sensed experiences of comfort and new developments with smart control of heat consumption in smart grid settings. The position will include teaching at courses as well as group supervision in diverse disciplines, including engineering educations, geography, and different interdisciplinary educations.  The work will also include fund raising, from both national and international sources, performed alone as well as in cooperation with other members of the group.  

Teaching will primarily be in engineering educations and geography, but also in other study programs at the University and will include teaching at courses as well as group supervision in diverse socio-technical aspects and disciplines.

Qualification requirements:

Appointment as an Assistant Professor presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment.

Appointment as an Assistant Professor cannot exceed a period of four years in total in a temporary position (appointment at Assistant Professor level cannot exceed a period of eight years in total in Denmark).
