Course number and title: APD1217H – Foundations of Proactive Behavioural and Cognitive-Behavioural Intervention in Children
Course description: This course provides a basic overview of current behavioural and cognitive-behavioural approaches to the management and remediation of maladaptive behaviour such as aggression, disruption, and noncompliance, in clinical, educational and residential settings. A conceptual model of behaviour and cognitive-behaviour therapy and learning principles relevant to this model will be considered. The model focuses on proactive, nonintrusive, and success-based approaches to remediation of problem behaviour. Topics will include assessment of maintaining variables, teaching of adaptive skill clusters, building tolerance to difficult environmental circumstances, moderating severe behaviour to enable skill-teaching and evaluating clinical progress.

Salary: As of September 1, 2022, the minimum stipend is $8,489.67 (inclusive of vacation pay) for a half credit course. As of January 1, 2023, the minimum stipend is $8,489.67 (inclusive of vacation pay) for a half credit course. Salary may be prorated based on the appointment percentage.
Minimum Qualifications:
1 – Candidate must have a doctoral degree in psychology, human development, special education or a related field;
2 – Must be registered with the College of Psychologists of Ontario;
3 – Experience and demonstrated excellence in teaching graduate courses, with expertise in content area.
Preferred Qualifications:
1 – Individuals with demonstrated clinical experience;
2 – Demonstrated scholarship in the area of the course topic;
Description of duties:
1 – Teach a minimum of 36 hours.
2 – Prepare teaching resources for each class and provide relevant materials.
3 – Assess and evaluate students’ work and provide a final course grade according to OISE/UT grading practices.
4 – Be available for informal meetings/communications with students as necessary.
