Position Overview

Facilities is currently seeking a Full-time Regular Senior ARCHIBUS Technical Analyst.

Facilities is responsible for creating, maintaining and renewing the buildings and spaces that enable the research, teaching and administrative activities of the University of Calgary. With over 975,000 m2 [10.5 million sq. ft.] and 140 buildings spread across eight sites, including satellite locations, parking kiosks etc. We are engaged in a pan-university approach to sustainability, which encompasses curriculum and research, campus operations, as well as co­ curricular service and community engagement. Strategic planning is essential for the careful alignment of resources for all areas the university owns and operates. Bringing together the skills of architects, engineers, project managers, and trades, Facilities provides quality environments in support of the overall goals and objectives of the University of Calgary (UC).

This position is part of the ARCHIBUS work unit, reporting to the Manager, ARCHIBUS within the Facilities Management budget unit. The ARCHIBUS work unit is a customer-facing, fast paced, and highly collaborative team environment that demands integrity, initiative, communication, and accountability.

The position has strong working relationships with the ARCHIBUS users, some central IT staff; and requires a high level of technical expertise to ensure the effective delivery of application support.

The position will participate in all aspects of design, development and maintenance of the ARCHIBUS application, which is an Integrated Workplace Management System (IWMS). The position will work with and advise other technical support members of the ARCHIBUS work unit. The position will work closely with business stakeholders to develop appropriate application solutions. They will know how to apply industry-standard practices and techniques in their work.

As a Senior ARCHIBUS Technical Analyst, the incumbent will, under the leadership of the Manager, ARCHIBUS, analyze and develop technology solutions that optimize and enhance business processes relating to the ARCHIBUS IWMS technology. This includes making decisions and assuming accountability for application design, hosting, change management, implementation and maintenance. The position is responsible for ensuring appropriate rigor is applied to each project, including but not limited to, scoping, stakeholder sign-off and full system documentation.

The position is accountable for ensuring that business applications, whether developed in-house or third-party, are planned, implemented, hosted and maintained in such a fashion that high availability and redundancy (where appropriate) are maintained. This includes working closely with other technical team members and being well versed in providing ongoing support for the application.

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Provides prompt, efficient production technical support services for ARCHIBUS and other Facilities portfolio applications.
  • Designs and implements robust, extensible, high-quality business applications that meets business, technical and quality requirements.
  • Designs and develops application migration plans to facilitate changes to the University’s legacy applications.
  • Delivers results on time and on budget, while ensuring that priorities and scope are well understood.
  • Ensures that immediate supervisor is kept informed of activities, issues, and progress with projects.
  • Ensures that all actions are aligned with the organizations strategic direction, ethics, values, and professional standards.
  • Ensures that all system documentation is created and maintained.
  • Maintains a positive working relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Coordinates time-off and vacation coverage with immediate supervisor and other team members to ensure the high-availability of systems and applications.
  • Provides a high level of personal integrity and a team focus with University colleagues.
  • Ensures appropriate client engagement and participation in assigned tasks.
  • Tracks progress, risks and issues and develops timely corrective actions.

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Understanding of programming languages and tools, including Java, JavaScript, SQL and various other technologies.
  • Customization and/or Enhancement of Business Software Applications including GUI development/customization, report development and script development.
  • Several years of experience with application problem resolution.
  • Database development and data structure modification.
  • Data mapping, data manipulation and data migration among various database systems and enterprise applications.
  • Experience with ARCHIBUS or other IWMS products is an asset.
  • Participation in the continuous improvement of the Technical Support Process to ensure best-of-class technical support and value for our clients.
  • Resolution of technical support issues when escalated by the IT Help Desk.
  • Installation, configuration and troubleshooting of off-the-shelf and custom software applications.
  • Strong customer focus, coupled with the ability to operate effectively in an energetic, fast- paced business environment.
  • The ability to influence others towards positive outcomes and ensure progress on initiatives.
  • The ability to quickly learn about new products, systems, applications and technologies.
  • The ability to determine the impact of system changes on business processes and outcomes.
  • Strong communications skills and is able to communicate with people with varying technical ability.
