The Buddhism, Psychology & Mental Health Program at New College seeks a sessional lecturer from September 1, 2022 – December 31, 2022 to teach the following course:

Course Name:  BPM330H1F – MINDFULNESS-INFORMED INTERVENTIONS FOR MENTAL HEALTH

Course Description: An exploration of the current interest in incorporating mindfulness into biomedical mental health interventions. Examines the concept of mindfulness closely to see how mindfulness is implicitly a component of biomedical psychological theories and interventions may also enrich those interventions, contributing novel Asian-derived perspectives to biomedical theory and practice. Emphasis is placed on the innovative contributions of Asian-derived aspects of mindfulness to better understand the structure of the embodied mind in the context of biomedical psychological intervention.

Estimated Course Enrolment: 100 students


Estimated TA Support: 175 hours


Class Schedule: Thursdays 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Note: This course will be delivered in-person. However, please note that, in keeping with current circumstances, the course delivery may change as determined by the Faculty or the Department


Sessional Dates of Appointment: September 1, 2022 – December 31, 2022

Salary: $8,489.67 (Sessional Lecturer I) – $8,869.25 (Sessional Lecturer I Long Term) – $9,085.58 (Sessional Lecturer II) – $9,301.90 (Sessional Lecturer III)

Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail. 

Minimum Qualifications: Completed or nearly completed Ph.D. (or equivalent) in an area related to Buddhist Studies, Mindfulness, and/or the intersections between Buddhism and Psychology.  Teaching experience required.

Preferred QualificationsRelevant teaching experience at the university level preferred.

Description of Duties: Normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; development, administration and marking of assignments, tests and exams; calculation and submission of grades; TA supervision and holding regular office hours.
