Description: In this course through a series of lectures and case discussions, students learn about the formation, financing, and management of early-stage ventures especially as it relates to the (bio) technology and associated medical device space. Topics include opportunity identification and assessment, preclinical and clinical phases, regulatory procedures and pathways, legal issues including patents and venture finance. Students will each be required to select a young, publicly-traded company in which to complete an in-depth analysis, presentation and report.

Number of positions: One (1) position 

Estimated course enrolment: 25 Students

Class schedule:  1 (2 hour block weekly Mondays 17:00-19:00)

Sessional dates of appointment: September 1, 2022– April 30, 2022

Salary:  $7,750 (includes 4% vacation)


Qualifications:  PhD and/or industry experience required, plus teaching experience in accredited courses at a recognized university. A Master’s or higher degree in the life sciences and/or management is an asset. Experience with courses focused on biotechnology management and experience with entrepreneurship are highly desirable  assets.

Description of duties:

All normal duties related to the design, teaching and delivery of a University credit course including:

Selecting and inviting industry partners.

Coordinating industry partners with student team presentations. Meeting with each of the student teams to guide/advise them on their presentations. Holding office hours as required.

Marking/evaluating student presentations and written reports; recording student attendance; recording and submitting grades; and communicating with students on course related matters, for the Fall term.

Course to be co-taught between two instructors.
