The largest concentration of scientists and engineers in the Photonics research area you will find at the University of Twente. Different expertise’s work together in research and development of photonic chips, development of microscopic techniques and application of nano-photonics in sensing, manufacturing, and imaging. To give you a flavor of what we are doing, in this cluster, researchers are for example engaged in research into photonic crystals in which light can be trapped, unbreakable security solutions based on quantum physics, advanced mirrors for the chip industry and extremely precise, miniscule lasers that can be used on chip. Moreover, our researchers in this domain work on cheap, light-based sensors that can be used to screen traces of cancer or to check water pollution levels on a large scale.

The research on photonics and integrated photonics is in full speed and is of great importance for future innovations. Therefore, the University of Twente is looking for an inspiring, decisive, and hands-on Program Manager for our (Integrated) Photonics activities.

The position:

Your main activity is to identify the key stakeholders inside and outside UT, to connect these and to further develop a collaborative and lasting program. This involves that:

  • You are jointly responsible for establishing and putting together sustainable relationships with major industrial partners, governments, and networks, including the development of propositions/roadmaps and acquisition of external funding in the area Integrated Photonics.
  • You will be coordinating the Integrated Photonics activities at the UT (covering both research and cleanroom equipment), including the UT activities in the national growth fund proposal PhotonDelta.
  • You create, in close collaboration with the lead researchers and management, a vision and future plan for the Integrated Photonics activities at the UT.
  • You create support for your plans at all levels and you are closely involved in their implementation and evaluation.
  • You will actively participate in relevant regional and international bodies that are connected to Integrated Photonics (such as the Photonic Integration Technology Centre and PhotonDelta to strengthen the profile of the photonic research at the UT.

YOUR PROFILE

We are looking for an enthusiastic team member. A strong program manager who can switch between different layers of the organization. You have experience in building successful public-public or public-private partnerships and you can motivate researchers to participate in these initiatives. You know how to work in a team of professionals and contribute to the overall success of the team.

  • You have knowledge of research and innovation dynamics, methods and projects.
  • You have experience in program management.
  • You have the ability to create and maintain senior-level networks and relationships with external parties and focused at (multidisciplinary) cooperation and bridging disciplines.
  • You are ambitious, entrepreneurial, and result-focused.
  • You have excellent oral and written communication skills, both in Dutch and in English (*C1), and German is well appreciated.
  • You hold a MSc/PhD in Optics / Photonics

OUR OFFER

  • We offer a challenging position (32-38 hours/week) in an inspiring multidisciplinary and industrial-academic environment, within a university which continuously improves the collaboration with industry and start-ups.
  • The appointment will initially be for a one-year period with the prospect of a permanent contract. The rating will be based on your background and relevant experience and can vary up to € 6.702,- gross per month based on scale 12-13.
